Prawns with Crab Paste Egg Fried Rice - Food with Mae-3

Prawns with Crab Paste Fried Rice

This turned out sooo good! My children really enjoyed this fried rice too, they scoffed up their food so fast. Haha!

A fast and easy meal for you to make, this took me less than 20 minutes to make and it doesn’t have a lot of ingredients.

I’m using crab paste which is the closest alternative to Filipino’s crab fat that is used for Aligue Fried Rice. Ideally I wanted to make Aligue fried rice but crab fat is not available in the UK.

I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as we have. I definitely recommend squeezing some lemon, it complements it so well!

Swap it & Common Questions

Where did you get the crab paste? I bought it from New Loon Moon in Chinatown

Can I use meat instead?  Yes of course, use this recipe as a base or guide and then you can make it how you want it.

Can I add Chili? Yes you can

Prawns with Crab Paste Egg Fried Rice - Food with Mae-3

Ingredients

500-800g leftover rice
150g salted butter, dishevelled & gutted
800g prawns
2-4 eggs
5 garlic cloves
1 tablespoon crab paste
1 teaspoon salt
2 pinch black pepper
2 stems spring onions
1 lemon

Instructions

1

In a wok or large pan cook the prawns first. Melt some butter, add the prawns, season with ½ teaspoon salt and a pinch of black pepper. Cook until each side has turned orange. Take out of the wok and leave it on the side.

2

Add the rest of the butter and add minced garlic. Cook the garlic until it turns golden brown, add the crab paste. Cook for a minute then add the rice, cook until incorporated and then add the prawns back. Stir and cook for a minute, put it aside and cook the eggs. Once the eggs are cooked, mix the rice and cook for another minute.

3

To finish your fried rice, sprinkle the chopped spring onions and serve while it’s hot. Squeeze some lemon juice for that freshness.
